Kansas City-based custom software development company, Blue Ocean Consulting, recently partnered with a custom pain medication delivery company to scale their production efficiently. Currently, the process to complete the prescription and enter patient information had to be entered in three separate applications. Each week the company delivers 1,000 prescriptions, making it critical to ensure the medications are created accurately. This requires pharmacists to participate in each step of the process creating exorbitant expenses.
We were able to create a custom solution that was specifically developed to handle the entire process from receipt of the prescription via fax through delivery of the medication. The solution encompassed a web application, a document management system, process management and server integration with a medical billing system. Web applications
are computer programs that allow website visitors to submit and retrieve data to and/or from a database over the Internet using their preferred web browser. In conjunction with a web application, an integration server
is a type of server that enables the integration and interaction of different operating systems, application and services within an enterprise IT environment. It eliminates compatibility and interoperability issues between different platforms. During each step of this process, a pharmacist can review and verify that the prescription is accurately being filled. Phase one of the application release resulted in the ability to handle 400 prescriptions per shift! As further rollouts proceed, we predict the company will be able to meet their 1,000 prescriptions per shift target.
